About Us
We are a long established choir of 70 or so singers, sociably sharing our enjoyment of the classical choral repertoire.
Recently celebrating our centenary, Compton and Shawford Festival Choir was founded on September 30th 1921, and for over 100 years uplifting concerts have been held in venues throughout Hampshire, giving singers in the area the opportunity of singing major choral works together.
We typically hold two major concerts each year, one singing classical choral works with orchestras, by composers like Faure, Rutter, Bach, Handel, Poulenc, etc, and one as part of the larger Hampshire Choral Festival. We sing each year, typically either in Romsey Abbey or Thornden Hall together with other choirs, which gives us the chance of performing works which we could not otherwise do because of the resources required. It also gives us the opportunity to work with excellent soloists and orchestras.
We also enjoy performing popular works at less formal “come and sing” days, along with various social activities.
New members are always welcome – no auditions required, whatever your experience level. Our expert conductor blends hard work with enjoyment to achieve outstanding performances.
You are welcome to just turn up to meet us in on one of our term-time rehearsals held on Monday evenings 7.15pm for 7:30pm-9.30pm rehearsals at Shawford Parish Hall.
